Kavitha Ranganathan, MD

Founder and PI

Dr. Simon Fabry is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab and a research fellow Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School. Simon is passionate about global health and surgery, exemplified by his one-year appointment with a German INGO in South Kordofan, Sudan. He is committed to education and addressing Human Resources gaps through partnerships.

Tai Miller is a pre-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab and a third-year medical student at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include gender-affirming surgery, LGBTQIA+ health access, and disparities in healthcare and outcomes.

Dr. Nikanthan Kumar is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab as well as a research fellow Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include improving the efficacy of community health workers in mass-casualty natural disasters in low-and-middle Income countries.

Dr. Raunak Goyal is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab. Her research interests include craniofacial and microsurgical reconstruction, financial toxicity and healthcare disparities, and surgical education.

Coral Katave, BA

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Creative Director

Dr. Hamaiyal Sana is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab. She is Vice Chair of the WHO Youth Council and the liaison officer to WHO for the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations. Her research interests include health economics and research of health systems to improve surgical care.

Dr. Kavitha Ranganathan is the founder of Surgeons Against Poverty. She is a staff surgeon in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Director of Craniofacial Reconstruction at Brigham and Womens Hospital. She specializes in craniofacial surgery and general reconstructive plastic surgery. Her research focuses on increasing access to care in resource-limited environments and addressing the burden of catastrophic expenditures and food insecurity in low- and middle-income countries.

Dr. Anam Ehsan is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab. Her research interests include improving the accessibility and affordability of healthcare globally, exploring the intersection of surgical care and health-related social needs, and strengthening the health system responses to climate disasters and mass casualty incidents.

Dr. Anabelle Jones is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab and a General Surgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is also a CSPH Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Riviello. Her research focuses on improving access to surgical care globally and health systems strengthening.

Coral Katave is a pre-doctoral research fellow at the Surgeons Against Poverty lab and a third-year medical student. She is the founder and president of Religious Women in Medicine and Science. Her research interests include furthering female education and gender equity, craniofacial and breast reconstructive surgery, and improving quality healthcare accessibility.
